On June 4-6, 2008 the first planning meeting for a Pliocene Climate
Model Intercomparison Project will be held at NASA's Goddard
Institute for Space Studies in New York. The agenda will be to design
a new series of global climate model simulations focusing on the
globally warm period of the mid-Pliocene (~3.3-3.0 Ma). Day 1 will
include presentations of previous Pliocene climate modeling
intercomparisons that have been conducted under the auspices of the
National Science Foundation – Paleoclimate Program and the Natural
Environmental Research Council in the UK. There will also discussion
of the PRISM Project digital data sets that serve as GCM boundary
conditions for mid-Pliocene simulations. Days 2 and 3 will focus on
the meeting's primary objectives of designing the first round of
intercomparison simulations and defining specific objectives for the
analyses. Prospective attendees are those who wish to run
mid-Pliocene climate simulations and are interested in participating
in the multi-model ensembles.
Space for this meeting is limited. A small amount of funding, from
various agencies, may be available for participating graduate
students. For registration information please contact:
